Missing Piece
Back to songs about family members. I wrote this for one of my daughters but I hope the imagery is general enough for people to identify with the message. Had an interesting experience writing this song - I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the lyrics and had to complete the song before I was able to get back to sleep. This song was the first time I wrote in the first person from some else's point of view. It was an interesting exercise and I've done it a few times since then. It was also the first time that I felt that electronic drums had the right feel for the song - even though I've blended an electronic kit and acoustic kit for the final drum track.more

Because
Why should we act on climate change? Because we want a future for our children. Why should we live in peace and harmony? Because it's better than fear and hate. Why should we welcome refugees? Because we've got so much and they've got so little. The picture of two young boys holding hands was published in the Sydney Morning Herald in the lead up to the overwhelmingly successful 1967 Referendum on Aboriginal rights in Australia. more

This Boy Can Fly
Another song for another grandson. My older grandson was 11 years old when Covid lockdowns and online learning became a thing. Surprisingly during this difficult time his reading and love of books - particularly fantasy and adventure stories - went through the roof. It pleased and old teacher librarian very much and I wrote this song for him but I hope it resonates with lots of other booklovers.more
